Mr B. Kendall, Toft Monks, Norfolk.
The original brief was for de-silting a lake only, which soon escalated into a much bigger project. We were then asked to reshape the lake and landscape the surrounding area, which meant we had to pump out all water and bring in earth moving equipment. It was January, so the weather was cold and very wet, which proved to be a challenge for our heavy machinery. But with careful planning we were able to successfully reshape and de-silt the lake to the customer’s requirements. The silt was then spread over the land as part of the landscaping process, so no waste was removed from site.
With that part of the project completed we were then asked to erect a jetty on the edge of the lake so the customer could moor his small boat. The jetty we constructed was made from round pointed post and decking planks to give a natural look. Once this final phase of hard landscaping was completed the lake was then refilled by a natural spring.
As part of the landscaping process we provided pond plants to both oxygenate the water and provide a natural habitat for wildlife. We then went on to turf and plant the whole of the remaining garden and added an attractive patio area around the house using a natural Indian sand stone. This helped to achieve the overall natural look that the customer was hoping for.
We returned to Toft Monks in the summer once the weather had turned good to complete the project. By this time the silt we had removed from the lake had dried out sufficiently for us to turn and prepare for grass seeding. The customer then asked us to construct a deck bridge in the same style as the jetty so he could cross over the spring stream into the newly seeded field. This project was completed in 8 weeks.
