Decking area at Chedgrave, Norfolk
We had been contacted by our customer to look at their garden area, as it was in the need for some TLC. The customer had an old run down pond, a split level patio and very uneven surfaces. The customer wanted a change and needed Simons Landscaping to install a decking area.
To start the job we knocked down the walls of the old pond and removed from site. This would allow the levelled deck to go over the old surface. We then used 100mmx100mm treated wooden posts to act as stilts for the decking area. These were used to support the wooden frame for the decking. The frame was constructed from 150mmx50mm treated wooden joists.
We then bolted newel posts to the wooden frame, which will be used for the balustrade. Once completed we then constructed steps from the same treated wood at 150mmx50mm. This allowed the steps to blend in with the decking for a seamless look.
Once all of the framework had been completed, we then cladded the whole area with 125mm grooved decking planks. These were then fixed over the top of the frame with ring shank nails. We then installed the base and top hand rail of the balustrade. Once installed we then put square spindles between the rails to form the competed balustrade. This is an important safety feature, as it will prevent any persons falling from the decking.
