Magnificent March 2022 Update
As the weather starts to heat up a lot of people start to picture how they want their gardens to look in the summer. Our customer over in Beeston, Norfolk had a clear vision as to what they wanted to achieve with their garden area. The brief was very simple, a large patio area, a specific water feature, a gazebo area, a driveway extension and to finish with a topping of turf. The project started on the 1st of March and was finished on the 1st of April; finishing as a four week project.
Patio Area
The first area our team started to work on was the patio area, and digging out the whole of the pre-existing area. We then had to lay new type 1 base to prepare split level of the patio area; this provided the final shape for the patio. Once this was finished our team got to work on the concrete block water feature. This was then cladded with porcelain tiles and then topped with a sphere water feature, which allows the water feature to match the patio perfectly and creates the stunning centre piece. The water feature made up of individual layers of slate crafted and shaped to produce the Belmont layered slate spheres in a variety of sizes. Different hues and textures are highlighted by water cascading over the peaks and troughs of the stone.
Once the patio area had been finished the team then moved onto the finishing articles for the patio. The first entails a six post wooden gazebo which is designed to provide the perfect area for a garden, come rain or shine. This focal point is ideal for parties but equally acts as a cover for barbeques, garden furniture as well as hot tubs. Finally our team moved onto constructing the softwood sleeper beds around the edge of the patio area; all of which had fresh top soil imported into them.
Garden Area
Due to being heavy cropped soil and being quite dense, this wasn’t suitable for our team to start working with. We dug over the whole soil area to create aeration and drainage. The next task was to create the drainage channels through the garden for the French drain system. These were positioned leading to passing ditches for a clear water flow. Next we prepared and levelled the soil with additional landscape top soil; ready for a turf topping. Finally we installed shingle drainage edge around the perimeter of the house. This will keep grass and soil away from the house and adds more characteristic detail and look for the project.
In the final stages of the rear garden our team installed rabbit net fencing around the back of the garden. This will prevent any unwanted wildlife and pests coming into the garden area. As an extra precautionary measure and decorative addition, we also installed hedging in front of the net fencing. Finally we laid fresh lawn turf across the whole garden area to provide the clean and an immediate finish for our customer to enjoy.
Once all of the back garden project area had been completed, our team finished with the driveway extension. Our customer required their shingle driveway to be extended to create more parking space. We started by laying a new hardcore base on the extension area to create a firm foundation. Once this had set, we then laid natural 20mm shingle stone over the whole surface area. This was then raked and blended with the old driveway.
