We had an old farm track leading to a newly renovated farmhouse to which we have built a new solid firm roadway. We have installed a large drainage system alongside the roadway to take all the surface water where we have built cobble set sections within that roadway with ACO channel drains to catch the water and disperse to the ditches.
We graded the existing type 1 granite base to give a consistent level roadway finish, followed by machine lay 100mm of tarmacadam in two layers rolled tight. This will take HGVs, Farm machinery etc. All the edges were then filled with topsoil flush to the road edge.
The asphalt was left to cure for two weeks for all the oils to wash off then we surfaced it with a hot K170, dressed with a 6mm golden pea shingle rolled tight with a rubber roller, this gives a traditional finish with a solid roadway leading all the way to the farmhouse.
