We were invited by Worstead park to carry out some 278 section work which included a new asphalt entrance and a new road traffic island due to a new planning application enquired for a new wedding venue.

We handled the job from start to finish – this meant we liaised with the highways, the councils and traffic management to provide a  road closure to carry out the works and to create a safe working zone to which we built a new traffic island that involved kerbs, asphalt, relining and new road signage to the main trunk road.

The new entrance we constructed to highways specification, included excavation work, CBR tests, building up in layers in capping materials, leveling and filling of type 1 granite. While the works were being carried out we leased with highway to carry out inspections at specific points of the build to make sure the specifications were correct to move forward to the next point.

We then moved forward onto laying layers of asphalt to highways specification. This was all carried out and signed off by the council, we moved on to the next section of works.

They needed a roadway built at approximately 1000m long x 7m wide, this was carved out through the natural lay of the land. We built this roadway using large reject rocks to the bottom to give a good stability to the roadway. Once levelled and thoroughly compacted we then put a layer of good quality crushed concrete. This acted as a binder/middle part of the roadway, levelled and compacted at 300mm thick through the whole length of the road.

At this point the bad weather rolled in so we had to pull off for a short time until the weather then improved enough to make it suitable for the work to continue to lay road plannings, which is a recycled tarmac from the highways, this gave us a smoother surface to finish the roadway. We then sealed with a surface dressing that is a hot K170 tar at 2L per m2, this was dressed with a Norfolk 10mm down golden pea shingle.

All these works were carried out with our own specialist equipment such as laser graders, rollers, surfacing equipment- surface tankers, road tankers, storage tankers, combi and rubber roller to insure the stone was pushed tight into the hot tar. The roadway works went smoothly and the park is open for weddings. The area was nicely landscaped to continue the natural look of the area.
