July in Drought: Simons Landscaping Still About

Another hot month goes by where we’ve cracked on and completed plenty of work
across East Anglia, including some specialist jobs with plenty of variation going on.
Even during these intense heat spells, we keep up our attitude to provide quality
workmanship and quick turnaround. However, the guys are keeping hydrated and taking
breaks throughout the day!

Big Month for Resin

Resin bound is one of our boldest options, offering a stunning finish that is completely
permeable to the Earth with no drainage needed. We work in collaboration with a great
manufacturer Daltex Resin that produces the best material on the market along with an
excellent local supplier in Resins R Us who make sure we have all the kits we need in
any colour for our clients.

Hellesdon Transformations

This month, we completed two bespoke landscaping projects on opposite sides of
Reepham Road in Hellesdon. The first involved the complete transformation of a tired
and outdated front and rear garden.
The property originally featured an ageing brick-weave driveway, cracked concrete
pathways and seating areas, a deteriorating retaining wall, and a lawn that lacked
structure and visual appeal. The client wanted a complete redesign that would improve
kerb appeal, reduce maintenance, and create a more cohesive outdoor space.
Our solution combines several of our most popular finishes. We installed a smooth
Stone Mastic Asphalt with a silver fleck driveway extending through to the garage
entrance, alongside a Moonlight (colour) resin bound seating area to the rear. The two
existing walls were rebuilt using durable engineering bricks, creating a striking feature
that complements the properties new appearance.
To provide a practical, low-maintenance garden suitable for modern living, we installed
an artificial lawn and a custom-cut Kandla Grey Indian sandstone patio. Throughout the
project, our signature charcoal brick edging was used to define each area and tie the
design together.
Following excavation and installation of a new type 1 granite sub-base, the
transformation quickly began to take shape over the next three weeks. The finished
result is a smart, contemporary outdoor space that is both functional and visually

impressive, giving the homeowners a garden and driveway they can enjoy for years to
come.

Our second Hellesdon project saw us return to a previous customer for whom we had
originally installed a brickweave driveway. Having been pleased with the result, they
invited us back to enhance the rear garden and surrounding outdoor areas.
The brief was to create a contemporary porcelain patio that blended seamlessly with the
existing driveway, while upgrading the pathways and summer house area with
attractive, low-maintenance surfaces.
We installed a stunning Kandla Grey porcelain patio complete with discreet drainage
channels and a durable jointing finish. To ensure a seamless transition between the
new patio and existing brickweave driveway, sections of the original paving were
carefully adjusted and re-levelled.
The existing pathways and summer house surrounds were then transformed using resin
bound surfacing. Finished with charcoal brick edging throughout, the pathways were
completed in Coral Beach resin, while the summer house area featured Ocean Pearl,
both colours chosen by the customer from our range of samples.
The completed project successfully combines modern materials with the existing
landscape, creating a cohesive outdoor space that is both practical and visually striking.

Among our other completed projects this month was the installation of a 102-square-
metre Golden Quartz resin bound driveway in Thorpe St Andrew.
The existing tarmac surface had reached the end of its lifespan and required a full
reconstruction. Our team removed the failing surface and sub-base before installing a
new foundation of crushed hardcore and Type 1 granite. The driveway was then
finished with a permeable tarmac base and a Golden Quartz resin bound surface,
complemented by traditional brindle block edging.
Completed in just one week, the finished driveway has transformed the property's kerb
appeal while providing a durable, low-maintenance surface for years to come.
Finally, we completed a Creme Brulee resin bound driveway with a 20mm aggregate
finish, combined with a Kandla Grey porcelain patio at the front of a property in Caston.
The new outdoor space was built on a robust foundation of Type 1 granite and open
permeable tarmac, providing a strong and long-lasting base before the finishing

materials were installed. The combination of warm resin tones and contemporary
porcelain has created a clean, modern entrance with excellent kerb appeal.

Completing Cromer Sea Front

July also saw the completion of our long-running resurfacing works along the coastal
path in Cromer, carried out on behalf of North Norfolk District Council.
This project has been delivered in phases over the last two to three years, improving
sections of the popular coastal route while minimising disruption to residents and
visitors. Across the project, our surfacing team laid approximately 200 tonnes of 10mm
Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA), creating a durable and long-lasting surface capable of
withstanding the demands of a busy public walkway.
As part of the wider scheme, we also completed resurfacing works at East Runton Car
Park, helping to enhance accessibility and improve the overall visitor experience along
this stretch of the North Norfolk coastline.
The completion of this project marks another successful partnership with North Norfolk
District Council and leaves a lasting improvement to one of the county's most popular
coastal destinations.

A Variety og Surfacing Projects Across Norfolk

We ended the month with a diverse range of projects, from domestic driveway
transformations to large-scale commercial surfacing works.
In Carlton Colville, we completed both a domestic and commercial Stone Mastic Asphalt
project. The domestic driveway transformation involved replacing a tired concrete
surface, rotten decking, and a failing fence with a practical, level access solution for the
homeowner.

After removing the existing concrete and preparing the area with a new Type 1 granite
sub-base, we installed a 10mm Stone Mastic Asphalt tarmac surface with red fleck rolled in for
a distinctive finish. The new surface continued down the side of the property, replacing
the old decking area, while new concrete posts and gravel boards were installed ready
for the customer to add their own fencing panels.

Alongside this, we completed a shared driveway for a pair of new-build properties,
installing 16 tonnes of 10mm Stone Mastic Asphalt tarmac to create a durable and low-
maintenance entrance.

We also completed a rapid commercial project for Land Rover in Postwick, creating a
1,600 square metre staff car park in just one day. Built using a strong crushed concrete
base and finished with repurposed road planings, this provides a cost-effective and
sustainable surfacing solution for commercial and domestic applications.
To finish the month, our team travelled to Field Dalling in North Norfolk to begin the
resurfacing of a tennis court. After removing the existing surface, we installed new net
fins using a strong lean mix slurry before applying a tack coat and laying 6mm play
court surfacing at a 25mm rolled thickness across four lanes. We will return next month
to complete the final painting and line marking.
